A partnership grown through relationship
Expand Uganda connects friends and churches in the United States with Ugandan leaders serving Christ in their own communities. The work grows through relationship: listening to pastors, learning from one another and sharing resources around the ministry of the local church.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations …”
Friendships that became a partnership
The relationships began before Expand Uganda had a name. Pastor Sylver and Kacungwa Community Church had a longstanding friendship with Ken Harvey and Canby Christian Church. Visits and shared projects brought people together around the life of the church and community.
Eric first visited in 2018. During a return visit in 2019, Sylver shared his concern for 16 rural pastors who were carrying the responsibilities of their churches and households. Sylver and fellow Ugandan leaders organized Pastoral Support Mission around the need for encouragement and support.
As the friendship developed, Eric’s connection with Sean Thomé brought the work into Expand Network. Encouraging pastors, training disciple makers and supporting church planting became the shared focus.

Working together through PSM
Pastoral Support Mission brings Ugandan leadership and knowledge of the communities where the work takes place. Pastor Sylver, Naphtali and fellow leaders help connect pastors, coordinate ministry and identify local priorities.
The relationship has developed through shared work as well as conversation. During the COVID period, PSM helped families with food support. Training, pastoral fellowship and outreach have provided further opportunities for churches and leaders to serve together.
Why we serve
Training disciples who make disciples.
Jesus’ Great Commission gives this partnership its purpose: making disciples, baptizing and teaching people to follow him. These principles guide how we share in that work.
Equip every follower of Jesus
Encourage each person to put their gifts, talents, time and treasure to work. Teaching, praying, building a business and helping a neighbor can all be ways to serve.
Training and discipleship →Support tentmaking
Help pastors develop livelihoods that support their households and sustain their ministry. Business training and partnership belong alongside biblical training and pastoral encouragement.
The pastor business partnership →Practice radical generosity
Hold what we have with open hands. Share resources gladly to meet practical needs, encourage one another and support the work of the gospel.
How we care for what is given →Serve through lasting relationships
Listen, keep showing up and care for people with dignity. Support Ugandan pastors and leaders as they guide the work in the communities they know and serve.
Meet the people serving together →Part of Expand Network
Expand Uganda is a ministry of Expand Network, whose church-planting history reaches back to Oregon in 1956. That wider connection brings a shared commitment to encouraging pastors, training disciples and planting churches.
The partnership invites people to participate through prayer, relationships and giving. The starting point is getting to know the Ugandan leaders and the communities they serve, and listening to their accounts of what God is doing in their lives.
We invite you to meet the people, explore the ministries and share in the work of encouraging, equipping and expanding the church.
