Training & Discipleship

Learning to help others follow Jesus

Discipleship continues wherever people learn to follow Jesus in daily life. The partnership’s aim is to equip disciple makers who can help others become disciple makers: reading Scripture together, considering how to respond and sharing what they learn with the people around them.

Matthew 28:19 · ESV · excerpt

The Great Commission brings baptism and ongoing teaching together as people learn to follow Jesus.

From learning to practice

Pastors and church leaders have an important part in this work. Teaching helps people understand the Bible; practice helps them learn to guide a conversation, encourage someone else and carry their faith into relationships and responsibilities.

Formal Bible school is one part of that preparation. Local teaching, shared ministry and time with other believers give leaders opportunities to use what they have learned beyond a course or classroom.

Read it, live it, share it

The ministry’s earlier disciple-making training invited leaders to read a Bible passage, retell it in their own words, consider what it says about God and people, and decide how to respond. Participants then considered who they could share it with.

Small groups gave people room to practice, ask questions and learn to lead a conversation themselves. This connects the training to everyday discipleship in a family, a church or a community.

A simple way to study together

Discovery Bible Study gives a group a way to read and discuss Scripture together. Its purpose is to help participants engage with the passage and consider their response, with room for them to share what they are learning.

The team introduced Discovery Bible Study at Muinaina in June and at Kanoni and Kibaale in July 2026. It was a step toward connecting the visits’ teaching and fellowship with further learning in Scripture.

Pastors putting their training to work

In August 2025, Pastor Sylver reported that pastors in that year’s Mobile Bible School had formed the Holy Gospel evangelism team. During the Kyampisi mission, they shared the gospel through open-air and house-to-house outreach.

This is a concrete example of leaders taking initiative together. Their study became part of serving beyond their own congregations, alongside other pastors who shared the desire to see people come to know Christ.

Equipping the next person

The continuing aim is to help leaders teach and encourage others in ways that can be used locally. That includes attention to language, understandable materials and opportunities to practice leading.

Further training is being prepared with Ugandan leaders. The purpose is to strengthen the ongoing work of discipleship in churches and other ministry settings, with people who can keep encouraging one another as they learn.

Pray for pastors and local facilitators as they help people read Scripture, follow Jesus and share their faith with others.
