Community Development

Serving the places churches call home

Churches live among the families they serve. Alongside worship, teaching and discipleship, their leaders see practical needs that shape everyday life. Community development grows from those local relationships, bringing people and capable project partners together to consider useful, lasting ways to help.

The water system is planned and remains in preparation.

Begin with the people and the place

At Isingiro, the church community’s work includes Ebenezer Christian School. The school gives children a place to learn, and its daily life brings practical needs into view alongside the work of teaching.

The planned water project is one response. A borehole on the church property is intended to bring water closer to the school and neighboring families. The school community, pictured here in January 2025, is part of the reason for pursuing that work.

Plan for the life of the project

Preparing a water project involves more than the drilling itself. The site, pumping system, power supply, storage and arrangements for ongoing care all matter to how it will serve people over time.

Local church leaders and experienced water-project partners are working through those questions. Expand Uganda helps connect the relationships and resources around the Isingiro project, while technical planning and the practical arrangements for care remain part of its preparation.

Different work, a shared purpose

Community development also connects with the partnership’s work in livelihoods and training. Pastor Partnership Businesses focuses on pastors’ household livelihoods. The developing New Beginnings program brings practical work and learning into its vision for life after prison.

Each project has its own people, purpose and preparation. Together, they express a concern for the communities where churches serve and for the practical responsibilities people carry within them.

Care that continues

The aim is to support work that local people can care for and use over time. Listening to those who live there and planning for ongoing responsibility are part of that task from the beginning.

Follow the Isingiro project update as the partners prepare for a water supply to serve the school and surrounding community.

Pray for wisdom in preparation, good cooperation among the project partners and provision for work that will serve the community well.

Scripture in community life

Making room for God’s Word

Bible distribution is another part of the ministry’s history. Through their connection with the Gideons, Naphtali and Eric have helped make English New Testaments available for prison ministry. The partnership also supports local-language Bibles.

Putting Scripture within reach connects practical help with the continuing work of teaching and discipleship.
